Retirement homes are not the same as nuirnsg homes. A nuirnsg home is pretty much for people who need constant care. People can end up in nuirnsg homes when they are young, but very infirm.A retirement home is just housing for people who are old. There are no services provided, but there may be programming (parties, clubs, etc.) Then there are assisted living facilities. These fall somewhere between the two the people in assisted living facilities do not need constant care, but there are social workers, nurses aides, etc. on hand to give a little extra assistance to older residents. They also provide meals, though the residents live in apartments with some cooking facilities. My parents lived in an assisted living facility for a time, and my father ended up in a nuirnsg home towards the end of his life. (Neither of these were in NYC, btw.)There is an assisted living facility in my neighborhood, Park Slope, and a nuirnsg home not too far away in Carroll Gardens. (Both of these are neighborhoods in Brooklyn.) There are nuirnsg homes and assisted living facilities all over NYC, though.
