Dear Advocates, Attendants, and Home and Community Attendant Services Providers:
As an important recipient and/or provider of in-home, community-based attendant services to Texans of all ages who have disabilities, you recognize the important role the attendants play in the quality of assistance they provide. The value of the attendant’s service is far more than what they receive in compensation. At PACT–Personal Attendant Coalition of Texas–we are working hard to advocate and recognize the value of their services in the community. PACT’s mission is to promote the respect, rights, and recognition of the person providing the attendant services; to educate all people regarding the actual value of attendant services in the community; and to support persons of all ages who have disabilities to thrive in the community, most importantly, in their own home. All these benefits provided through quality attendant care services that last a lifetime.
PACT has been very active in promoting the value of the attendant services and the economic impact/savings of attendant care in a person’s home and community compared to the cost of institutionalized care in nursing homes or “living centers” which has a drastic, costly devaluation of a disabled person’s quality of life.
PACT is strongly and tirelessly advocating to promote attendant service value and their personal basic needs in the labor force. Educating and testifying before the state legislature throughout the year, during the sessions, before and after the sessions. Making a livable wage in this field is difficult. Sadly, many attendants have to depend on public support to make their own ends meet.
PACT wants to continue to recognize the attendant labor force and reward exemplary attendants from across Texas with an ATTENDANT of the YEAR award celebration and barbeque being held Saturday, May 19, 2012 from 6-8pm at ADAPT of Texas, 1640A East 2nd in Austin. An application for ATTENDANT OF THE YEAR 2012 is attached. Nomination forms are due by May 7, 2012. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the PACT organizers, Cathy Cranston or Nancy Crowther at 512-442-0252, fax 512-442-0522, email: flacacata@aol.com.
Please join us in this free celebration of Attendant of the Year by sending an RSVP.
